We only have a few more months before “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” ends forever. Colbert has helmed the late-night desk for over a decade—and has cemented his place in talk show history.
And while we’ll miss his witty banter, observational comedy, and dynamic interviews, there’s one thing we’ll miss the most: “The Colbert Questionert.”
During his celebrity interviews, Colbert invites his guests to participate in “The Colbert Questionert,” a series of questions Colbert says are “meticulously calibrated to plumb the depths of a guest’s psyche.” The segment always starts with one simple question: “What is the best sandwich?”
Thanks to this segment, we’ve learned so much about our favorite celebrities over the years. British actress Kate Winslet loves a classic grilled cheese sandwich. Icon Meryl Streep’s go-to sammie is a pastrami on rye. And the ever-so-clever Ryan Gosling said his favorite sandwich is the ice cream sandwich—hey, it counts!
When actor Jeff Bridges made a recent visit to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “The Dude” took part in “The Colbert Questionert.” We learned a lot about the Hollywood icon, including that his first concert was James Brown & The Famous Flames, that he eats apples nearly every day, and that he’s a big fan of The Talking Heads. But the most interesting factoid of all was his favorite sandwich. It’s unique, specific, and sounds oh-so delicious.
Jeff Bridges’ Favorite Sandwich
When asked, “What is the best sandwich?” Bridges quickly answered, “I think I’d have to go with the classic cheeseburger.” Bridges may have started a new culinary debate—is a cheeseburger a sandwich?
The actor elaborated on his choice. “Well, the onion is very important,” the actor said. “Not a cooked onion. I like raw onions. Red preferably.” He also noted he likes a toasty bun and has a specific cheese preference as well, which is Havarti—partly because it’s his wife’s favorite. He adds some endive for a bit of crunch, too.
I’m always up for a cheeseburger any day, but Bridges’ version sounds especially enticing. Move over White Russians, “The Dude” has a new favorite!
